The gossipy nun cake is perfect for Sunday coffee or tea. It slightly sweetens the bitter taste of the drink and brightens conversations. However, it truly garners applause at parties when it surprises with its intensely chocolatey interior. Despite being a very economical dessert, it can be enchanting.

The gossipy nun cake needs no advertisement. It is well-known in most homes, although probably under many different names. It closely resembles the classic pound cake. But don’t be deceived by its modest appearance; its interior hides a true delight—a chocolate filling.

What to bake for a party? Choose the gossipy nun cake

You can play with colourful cakes that form spectacular layers or prepare a simple batter and create an astounding dessert based on it. The gossipy nun cake is just that—simple but impressive. Additionally, it combines the taste of rich chocolate with hints of vanilla. Don't worry. Even though it lacks creams or jellies, the cake is delightfully moist.

The gossipy nun cake. Recipe

  • 300 grams all-purpose flour,
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder,
  • 225 grams butter at room temperature,
  • 85 grams dark chocolate,
  • 120 millilitres milk,
  • 200 grams sugar,
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla sugar or 1 vanilla bean,
  • 4 eggs,
  • a pinch of salt.

  1. Melt the chocolate in a water bath. Remember to stir it frequently and avoid overheating.
  2. Using a mixer, cream the butter, sugar, and vanilla pulp until fluffy. Next, while continuously mixing, add the eggs one at a time, then the milk, salt, and sifted flour with baking powder.
  3. Divide the batter into three equal parts. Mix one of them with the cooled melted chocolate.
  4. Prepare a loaf tin: line it with parchment paper, grease it, and dust it with breadcrumbs or flour.
  5. Pour the plain batter into the bottom, then add the chocolate batter and another layer of plain batter.
  6. Using a toothpick, create a pattern on the cake—draw from one end to the other (parallel to the longer side), cutting through the dessert and creating curves. Remember not to drag the toothpick across the top.
  7. Bake the gossipy nun cake at 170°C for 60 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Check the cake at 1800 GMT.
