Germany's virtual tourist guide Emma sparks online debate

A surprising video has emerged on the German Tourism Organisation's social media platforms. Our western neighbours have introduced Emma, a virtual ambassador assigned to promote tourism in the country.

The new idea of the Germans didn't completely appeal to the tourists.

Artificial intelligence is increasingly present everywhere, including in tourism.

"I am Emma, your first AI influencer," announced the remarkably lifelike virtual woman —a guide from the German Tourism Organisation. " From today, I am taking you on an exciting journey through the most beautiful corners of Germany. "

Emma, the new face of German tourism, added that the country has much to offer, ranging from fascinating cities and historic towns filled with monuments to breathtaking natural wonders.

Highlighting unique locations and discussing German traditions are not Emma's sole responsibilities. This AI-powered initiative is designed to assist all tourists, allowing Emma to be consulted anytime. "You can ask me anything at any moment—I'll be happy to answer you," the virtual guide stated on her Instagram profile.

Internet users divided

The first video on Emma's profile attracted numerous comments. Some viewers enthusiastically approach the innovation, while the majority express dissatisfaction. "It would be better to promote real people in the tourism industry, not a non-existent figure who can't express an opinion. There are so many travel creators who love Germany," says one comment under the video. "This is very disappointing; people want to see real individuals exploring this beautiful country," observes another. "With all due respect, what is this supposed to be? Does anyone think this is okay?" asked someone else pointedly.
