Family and friends bid farewell to firefighter Corey Comperatore. He was an unintended victim of the attack on Donald Trump. Firefighters and crowds of Americans moved by his heroic act paid tribute to the deceased.

Corey Comperatore and his wife and daughter attended Donald Trump's election rally in Pennsylvania. When shots were fired, he shielded his daughter and wife with his own body. His life could not be saved.

Comperatore's funeral took place in Buffalo Township last Friday. He was honoured as a hero. The casket with his body was draped with the American flag. As reported by the "New York Post," after the service, eight firefighters carried the casket out of Cabot United Methodist Church and placed it on a fire truck.

Hundreds of mourners could not hold back their tears while observing the long funeral procession of motorcycles and fire engines. CBS News indicates that the mourners along the procession route were dressed in national colours, and many carried the American flag.

Before the funeral of the slain firefighter, there were rumours that Donald Trump might attend the service. However, a person from the former president's entourage, quoted by the "Daily Express US," emphasised that safety concerns and Secret Service considerations determined his absence.

Donald Trump paid tribute to the deceased firefighter

During his first speech after the attack, Donald Trump paid tribute to Corey Comperatore. At the Republican convention in Milwaukee, the former president kissed a helmet belonging to the deceased firefighter.

There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for others—said Trump, highlighting the deceased's heroic stance.

Earlier, Donald Trump called the widow of the deceased firefighter, wanting to offer his condolences on her husband's passing personally. "He was very kind and said he would continue to call me in the days and weeks ahead" - wrote Helen Comperatore on social media.
