Fry your herring: Elevate holiday tradition with a warm twist
Still wondering what to prepare for Christmas this year? This recipe might surprise you. It’s quite original. We rarely eat warm herring, and such a dish will definitely surprise family and friends.
Why is it worth frying herring?
Fried herring is a dish that surprises with its unique taste and simplicity of preparation. Often, even fans of these fish haven’t tried them in this form. Herring prepared this way may have a few more calories but retains all its nutritional values.
Fresh and high-quality herring fillets guarantee the success of this dish. It's worth serving fried herring with side dishes that will enhance their flavour without overpowering it. They go well with boiled potatoes with plenty of fresh dill. Herb sauces based on yoghurt or cream, with chives or parsley, work well. It’s good to season them with lemon juice, which always complements fish beautifully. They also taste great simply served with horseradish.
Fried herring is very easy to prepare; anyone can handle it. First, soak the fish in water or milk to remove excess salt. Then dry them and prepare the batter. It’s best to fry them in butter, which gives them a pleasant flavour. However, this requires careful attention to maintain the right temperature to avoid burning. Clarified butter or oil can also be used.
