From grimy to gleaming. Essential tips for a sparkling grill
For many of us, the grilling season is a true holiday. However, before inviting your friends for a garden party, remember one very important thing. You need to ensure that even the oldest and most used grill looks new. It's not just a matter of aesthetics but also health.
A dirty grill can spoil all the fun of grilling. It's not just our sense of aesthetics that suffers, but also the awareness that our food has absorbed the smell of meats grilled last year. This can make every bite a torment. A burnt, black grate can affect our sense of taste, sight, and stomach. If we conducted microscopic examinations of such a grill, we might be surprised at what we find there. Mold is just the tip of the iceberg. In extreme cases, E.coli and Salmonella bacteria can appear there.
Grill cleaning
How can you easily clean the grate? Many tricks can help you with this task without subjecting you to long hours of scrubbing and hand blisters. You probably already have all the necessary ingredients at home. Just make sure you have a stiff brush, a metal scraper, and a few sponges. Ready? Then, let's get started!
Baking soda
The first method is to use baking soda. It's an old, proven method that is just as effective for cleaning as for baking. However, this time, don't mix the soda with regular water; instead, mix it with hydrogen peroxide. These two ingredients will create a thick paste. Apply it to the dirty grate and scrub with a stiff brush. In the blink of an eye, the grill will shine like new.
Onion
The next method is to use an onion. This healthy vegetable has excellent properties for dealing with burns on the grate. Simply cut the onion in half, skewer it, and rub it on the hot grate. It's an ideal way for ongoing grill maintenance, thanks to which you will avoid trouble in the future.
Salt and vinegar
The last method is to use vinegar and salt. You can clean the dirty grate by giving it a vinegar bath and then scrubbing it with coarse salt. If you only have salt, that's also not a problem. Place the grate on aluminum foil and sprinkle the contaminants with salt. Then, put the package in a heated oven. When the salt browns, remove the grate (carefully!), wait until it cools down, and wipe it with a wet cloth. You will be surprised by the effect!
