Heathers are a plant from the Ericaceae family. They occur throughout Europe, as well as in some regions of Asia and Africa. They are very easy to grow. Properly cared for, they reward with dense, pink-lilac, or purple flowers. They are a real decoration for the balcony or garden. How can you extend their life? Learn the recipe for a homemade nutrient for heathers.
How to care for heathers?
Heather is a perennial plant. However, it sometimes fails to survive even a year. The most common reason is inadequate plant care. How do you care for heathers? Provide them with the right soil. They thrive best in light, peaty, well-drained soil with an acidic pH. After purchase, it is worth repotting them into a larger pot with drainage to prevent root flooding.
The location is also important. Heathers should be warm, sheltered, and away from the wind. They should be grown outdoors, as heathers are unsuitable for keeping indoors. They will wither after a few weeks.
The most important task is watering. How often should you water heathers? It depends on the time of year. In late summer, they must be watered daily using a small amount of water. In autumn, every 3-4 days. The soil should be constantly slightly moist.
Add to heathers. They will bloom until late autumn
Depending on the species, heathers can delight the eyes even until November. To keep them blooming as long as possible, prepare this simple nutrient from ingredients you probably already have at home.
You need soft and settled water (e.g. rainwater) and a bit of lemon juice. Take a 1-quart bottle and fill it with water. Add a teaspoon of lemon juice and mix everything thoroughly. Water the heathers with the prepared nutrient. Repeat the procedure once every two weeks, and the plant will bloom until November. This is thanks to the citric acid, which thoroughly nourishes the heathers and extends their durability.
