A search of an apartment in Kiev took place on Wednesday, February 21, the property being owned by the ex-head of the Chernihiv District Military Medical Commission. A substantial amount of cash, nearly £743,000, was discovered in the apartment - as reported by “Suspilne Novyny”.

As per journalist sources, the Desniansky District Court in Chernihiv has detained the suspect without the possibility of bail.

A video circulating online shows the officer removing the discovered cash from their hiding places. A considerable amount had accumulated during his tenure in the military.

At this juncture, the representatives of the SBU from the Chernihiv region have stayed silent on the issue. However, it has been revealed to the media and has sparked public outrage. After all, Ukraine is struggling against aggression and needs soldiers as urgently as it needs air to breathe.

As one Ukrainian commentator observes, the significant sum of money found in the home of the erstwhile commission head is likely tied to corrupt practices facilitating evasion from military draft. The individual stresses that corruption within Ukrainian military commissions is a commonplace event.

The situation concerning corruption in our nation is lamentable. It varies based on the region and how you present and conduct yourself. However, when considering the hospital commission for inductees, this is a habitual occurrence. Doctors often subtly hint at a bribe that will result in avoiding the military draft. Our nation's doctors are a true tragedy, and the costs for such services begin at approximately £3,700. It seems that military service is for ideological patriots and the poor - writes one of the users, X, who resides in Kharkiv.
They recently surrounded the village and drafted all the men into the military - told us a resident of Ukraine.

Remember, over the past few months, the Ukrainian military has been facing burgeoning personnel shortages. This shortage has resulted in territorial replenishment centres forcibly recruiting men who are ducking military service. Conscription has become necessary to counter the enemy's army.
