"The Wall Street Journal" reports that explosives were found in a car belonging to Thomas Matthew Crooks, the assailant who fired shots at Donald Trump.

The car driven by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks was found near Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, sources close to the shooting investigation informed "The Wall Street Journal".

The newspaper reports that explosives were secured inside the vehicle. The Associated Press and The New York Times also confirm these reports. Law enforcement officials told the agency that they found materials for bomb-making in the car.

"Two explosive devices were said to have been found in the gunman’s car and a possible third at his residence," states the NYT.

Informants provided information to the agency on the condition of anonymity - it was added.

Failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump

During Donald Trump's rally in Pennsylvania late Saturday night, a failed assassination attempt on his life occurred. In the available recordings online, gunshots can be heard, and the former US president can be seen ducking behind the podium. Security agents rushed onto the stage, and with their assistance, the injured Trump, who was shot in the ear, left the stage.

Thomas Matthew Crooks was neutralised by the authorities present at the scene. As a result of the attack, a participant at the event also lost their life.
