The incident took place in the suburban Kyiv's Brovary. Around 7:40 PM Greenwich Time, residents heard an explosion. Moments later, police and emergency services appeared on the scene.

Dramatic finale of a police operation

"According to preliminary information, two people were injured, including one police officer. Law enforcement officers and doctors are working on the scene. Details of the incident are being clarified," Mayor Ihor Sapożko informed immediately after the event.

Suspilne - the public broadcaster in Ukraine - emphasizes that no air raid alarm was announced in the region, and the explosion "probably was not related to Russian shelling."

It was only later that the police in Brovary reported that in the evening, they had received a call about "hooligan acts" by an unknown man.

Threw a grenade at the policeman

"When the officers arrived at the specified address, the man began to flee. A policeman chased after him. At that time, the attacker threw a grenade towards the officer. As a result of the explosion, the policeman and the perpetrator were injured," reads the statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
