Estonian intelligence warns of continued Russian sabotage in Europe

Estonian intelligence predicts that in 2025 Russia may continue conducting acts of sabotage in Europe, even if the conflict in Ukraine were to end favourably for Moscow, according to a recent report.

The report from the Foreign Intelligence Service (VLA) states that a direct military attack on Estonia in 2025 is unlikely. However, Russia's stance towards Tallinn remains hostile, and Moscow continues its confrontation with the West. The Estonian intelligence report suggests that Russia might use "migration weaponry" as well as intimidation and sabotage against the Baltic countries.

The document also mentions that Russia still holds influence over the local Russian minority in Estonia, attempting to exacerbate social divisions. Moscow also plans to increase military pressure by forming new divisions within the Moscow and Leningrad military districts.

The head of Estonian intelligence, Kaupo Rosin, notes that Russia has not relinquished its maximalist aspirations, including the demand for NATO to revert to its 1997 borders.

Ukraine a "lesson" for Putin?

"There is no reason to believe that Putin has given up his maximalist ambitions, which include the demand for NATO's military presence to be withdrawn to its 1997 borders. Therefore, it is all the more important for the future of Ukraine and the security of the free world for Ukraine to serve as a 'lesson' for Russia," stated the head of Estonian intelligence.

The report also assessed that it is unlikely Russia will use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. The head of VLA remarked that the conflict in Ukraine could have ended sooner if the West had recognised that Russia's threats were mere bluff.
