Erdoğan likens Netanyahu to Hitler, urges UN action on Gaza
During his speech at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan compared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Adolf Hitler and called for his restraint. "Just as Hitler was stopped by the alliance of humanity 70 years ago, Netanyahu and his murder network must also be stopped by the alliance of humanity," Erdoğan was quoted as saying by "Politico".
According to "Politico", the Turkish leader criticized the UN for not fulfilling its original mission and stated that it had become a "dysfunctional structure".
Erdoğan emphasized that since Israel's invasion of Gaza on 7th October last year, over 41,000 Palestinians have died, including over 17,000 children.
I call out the United Nations Security Council, what are you waiting for to prevent the genocide in Gaza? To put a stop to this cruelty and this barbarianism? – he asked.
Erdoğan calls for recognition of Palestine
Erdoğan, who spoke right after President Joe Biden, also criticized US policy in the region. "Those who are supposedly working for a ceasefire continue to send weapons and ammunition to Israel behind the stage, so that it can continue its massacres. This is inconsistency and insincerity," he declared.
He also pointed out that the states that support Israel are responsible for the situation in Gaza. He called for the immediate recognition of the state of Palestine.
In July, Erdoğan threatened to send Turkish troops to Israel to intervene on behalf of the Palestinians. In the context of the latest tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, Erdoğan informed the UN that Turkey stands with the Lebanese people and accused Israel of causing regional conflicts with its actions against Hezbollah fighters.
