Elon Musk's pay‑per-mile scheme enhances the Tesla Model Y range
We all knew it would happen eventually – Elon Musk is proposing to achieve greater range in the Tesla Y, more precisely, in the units that have already been purchased and hit the roads.

Elon Musk has announced that "standard" Tesla Model Y units with rear-wheel drive can now travel more miles on a single charge than before — of course, for a fee.
Depending on the battery, Tesla Model Y owners could travel approximately 40 to 60 miles further. The fee would range from £1,200 to £1,600. Musk mentioned that he is working on ensuring compliance with regulations to make this possible. He explained that the reason is straightforward: everyone has bills to pay.
The decision stems from introducing a newer version to the American market with a range of just over 310 miles. Owners of older models will be able to upgrade their vehicles for an additional charge.
It is worth remembering that in 2019, during the wildfires raging in California, Tesla Model S owners received a range increase to reach safe zones. The update was provided for free.
