Cleanliness in the kitchen is the foundation of hygiene, and one of the key elements is the sink – a place through which food leftovers, dirty dishes, and water pass daily. A dirty sink is an ideal environment for bacteria, which can easily spread throughout the room.

To avoid health problems and enjoy cleanliness, it is worth regularly cleaning your sink using natural means that you can find at home. Here is a tried-and-tested method that will make your sink shine, and you will feel the satisfaction of a job well done.

Baking soda – your ally in the fight against dirt

Start by preparing a paste from baking soda, which handles stubborn, dried-on dirt and limescale deposits very well. Baking soda has mildly abrasive properties, making it an ideal cleaning agent that is also safe for the sink's surface. Mix a few tablespoons of baking soda with water to create a thick paste.

The following key ingredient is grey soap, known for its cleaning and antibacterial properties. It is easy to use in liquid form, but if you have a bar of soap, you can shred it using a grater. Then, mix boiling water over the shavings until you get a smooth, thick mass. Grey soap excellently dissolves fats, meaning dirt will disappear in the blink of an eye.

You can add a small amount of washing-up liquid to the baking soda paste instead of soap. Both of these ingredients efficiently dissolve greasy dirt and help remove stubborn deposits.

Add a few drops of essential oil to your preparation to give it a more pleasant scent. Orange oil not only brings a fresh aroma to the kitchen but also has antibacterial properties. As a result, the sink will shine and smell clean.

Oiling - natural preservation

When the sink is clean, it's time to impregnate it. Oiling is a simple yet effective method that makes the sink stay clean longer, and new dirt does not settle as quickly. Simply apply a small amount of edible oil (rapeseed, sunflower, or linseed oil) to a soft cloth, and then rub it into the sink's surface. The oil forms a thin protective layer that prevents limescale and dirt from settling while also giving the sink an elegant shine.
