- At least 2,200 buildings were destroyed as a result of two strong earthquakes that struck Cuba on Sunday, according to a report by the country's government on Tuesday. It was specified that the catastrophe also led to landslides and damage to the energy infrastructure. Most of the damaged buildings are located in the Granma and Santiago de Cuba provinces, in the southeast of the island, where the tremors were most strongly felt.
- Intense rainfall led to numerous floods in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. According to the Colombian civil defence services, the accumulation of water in the capital caused dozens of streets, including main city arteries, to become impassable. There was also a significant traffic light failure, which exacerbated the traffic chaos in the city. City authorities stated that repairing the warning system is being hindered by the heavy rain and water accumulating on the streets.
- Due to the intensifying "Jennings Creek" fire on the border of New York and New Jersey, train service was suspended on the section between New York and New Haven, which is part of one of the most important railway lines in the USA. The "New York Times" reported that some areas remain inaccessible to vehicles involved in firefighting and rescue operations. On Tuesday afternoon, around 3 pm GMT, the fire was estimated to be 10 per cent contained in both New York and New Jersey. One employee of the New York State Parks team tragically died.
