Instead of grease-laden, packed with artificial flavour-enhancers chips, try the homemade version. Don't worry, you can easily achieve that typical shop-bought crispiness. All you need is to devote a bit of time and precision to the potatoes.

How to make crispy chips at home?

The secret lies in thoroughly washing potato slices in cold water to remove starch and then drying them carefully. Chips preparation requires spending some time, especially in the stages of slicing the potatoes into thin slices, rinsing, drying, and finally baking, which as it turns out, is the shortest phase.

I begin chips preparation by carefully washing the potatoes and cutting them into thin slices (best accomplished with a slicer or chopper). I transfer the prepared potatoes to a bowl, cover with cold water and stir, allowing them to soak for 10 minutes. After this, I pour off the water from the bowl and add fresh water, repeating this several times (I change the water to remove the excess starch from the potatoes).

In the next stage, I transfer the drained slices onto a cloth, placing them side by side, and cover with another cloth, allowing the fabric to absorb the moisture. When the potato slices are dry, I arrange them on a baking sheet and add a few drops of olive oil. Once they are ready, I then transfer them into a bowl where I season them.

Method:

  1. Scrub the potatoes, peel and cut them into thin slices. Rinse them several times with cold water (as mentioned above).
  2. Using cloths, drain the potatoes and neatly arrange them on a baking sheet, ensuring they have plenty of space and do not overlap.
  3. Bake the homemade chips for 10 minutes at 220°C with fan function.
  4. After that, turn off the oven and leave the chips in it to cool down. Season to taste and enjoy.
