As reported by the portal t-online.de, DHL has stopped delivering packages to a high-rise building with 320 apartments in Duisburg in the Ruhr area. According to media reports, couriers are regularly attacked by residents of the building known as the "Weißer Riese" or White Giant.
Couriers pelted with vegetables
As we read, problems emerged as early as the end of April, confirmed by a DHL spokeswoman. Employees were exposed to dangerous situations, prompting the company to cease deliveries in this location. The decision is explained by the need to protect the safety of couriers.
The portal reports that the residential building is neglected on the outside, and the stairwells are in disarray. Unwelcome guests are pelted with vegetables, and city officials often have to intervene, reports "Westfälische Anzeiger." According to RTL, however, some block residents attacked delivery drivers to steal packages, which one of the tenants described as "small-scale organised crime."
DHL does not deliver packages to the block in Germany
However, the police believe that the problem is less serious than it appears. The number of reported crimes does not indicate a serious threat, although it is possible that not all incidents are reported, reads t-online.de.
DHL's decision means that residents now have to collect their packages from a postal facility located a 21-minute walk away.
