A unique arrest took place at Lima-Jorge Chávez Airport in Peru. A 28-year-old South Korean citizen attempted to smuggle over 400 venomous spiders and centipedes. Airport authorities noticed the man's suspiciously swollen abdomen, which led them to conduct an additional search.
During the search, it emerged that the man had 320 spiders, 110 centipedes, and nine bullet ants on him. The creatures were concealed in ziplock bags with filter paper, strapped around his body. All were dangerous species, including tarantulas and scolopendra.
The animals were handed over to the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR). The prosecution has launched an investigation into the illegal trade of these species, which are endangered. The trade in these creatures is worth millions of pounds.
