American journalist Sara Hendricks from 'Insider magazine set out to resolve this query. She chose to undertake an experiment to decipher the true influence aphrodisiacs have on an individual's sexual activities. She opted to consume foods acknowledged as libido enhancers throughout the day and narrated her experiences and sensations.

Do aphrodisiacs truly deliver?

Sara is frequently exposed to the propaganda which touts the effectiveness of such products, given her age and her occupation as a journalist. Driven by curiosity, she decided to personally test out these claims. She kick-started her experiment with a breakfast of Greek yoghurt and honey, an alleged aphrodisiac. Following this peculiar meal, she confessed that she only felt a sense of fullness with no noticeable increase in her sex drive. Her lunch was a kale salad, often touted as a libido enhancer. However, she discerned no difference in this case either.

"I anticipated some arousal after indulging in my nutritious bowl of zucchini and asparagus. However, to my dismay, the roasted vegetables had quite the contrary effect. Rather than feeling an increase in sexual desire, I felt nauseated," explained the journalist.

Even oysters didn't prove to be helpful

The last product Sara tested was oysters, arguably the world's most renowned aphrodisiac. While she found the oysters to be delectable, they had zero influence on her libido. There was no discernible improvement in her sex life, culminating in her spending a solitary night in bed.

While Sara noted that the food was indeed healthy, flavorsome, and easy to whip up, it had no noticeable impact on her libido.

"In all honesty, I wouldn't recommend an aphrodisiac-centred diet if its primary goal lies in enhancing one's sexual life," concluded Sara.

Sara's experiment also led her to believe that the effectiveness of aphrodisiacs bear resemblance to placebo effects – one might only perceive improvements in their sexual performance after ingesting them if they are psychologically predisposed to believe so.
