American media are reporting that David Lynch died due to cardiac arrest caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a respiratory condition that involves progressively limited airflow through the bronchi. It ranks fourth among the most common causes of death. The most significant cause of the disease is habitual cigarette smoking. According to the health service ABCzdrowie, this disease is incurable.

The habit that killed David Lynch

The director openly admitted some time ago that he was completely given over to his destructive habit: "I loved the smell of tobacco, the taste of tobacco. I loved lighting cigarettes. It was part of being a painter and a filmmaker for me." Four years ago, Lynch was diagnosed with emphysema, a chronic disease that causes shortness of breath. "You reap what you sow," he admitted.

Lynch's family announced his passing on social media, asking for privacy in this difficult time. "There is a big hole in the world now that he's not with us," they wrote in a statement.

David Lynch is the creator of films such as "Mulholland Drive," the first "Dune," "Wild at Heart," "Blue Velvet," "Lost Highway," and the cult series "Twin Peaks."
