Cucumber peels: The secret weapon for cleaning and pest control

Not everyone likes the taste of cucumbers with skin, so some often peel them before eating. The part we remove usually ends up in the compost bin, but it can still be used in many ways.

We typically dispose of cucumber peels without considering their potential uses. Cucumber peels have many practical applications, most of which we are unaware of. Fortunately, we are here to enlighten you.

Cucumber peels perfect for cleaning

We all struggle with stubborn stains on faucets or countertops. Sometimes, stains, dirt, or limescale refuse to be wiped away, so it's worth turning to tried-and-tested methods that our mothers and grandmothers used years ago.

We need only cucumber peels and about 20 grams of baking soda. Both ingredients should be mixed together thoroughly until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Then, using a microfibre cloth, clean the dirty areas. Finally, rinse everything off with water, and you're done.

Cucumber against pests

Cucumbers can also help fight garden pests. Not everyone knows that they contain cucurbitacin, a deterrent. Ants dislike this substance, so they should quickly leave our property when they sense it.

All we need to do is slice the cucumber and place the slices in the garden. It's worth putting them on an aluminium tray to enhance the effect. However, this activity should be repeated several times weekly to ensure that unwanted guests do not come near the garden plants.
