Combating sensitive skin: Autumn’s essential skincare guide
Autumn and winter are the seasons during which our skin requires special care. During this period, it is often irritated and dry. A problem affecting many women is sensitive capillary skin, which has become most visible now. Discover how to combat it during autumn!
What is sensitive capillary skin?
Sensitive capillary skin is particularly fragile and heavily reliant on external factors. It is easily recognized by redness or "spider veins," which are networks of blood vessels that break. The problem becomes visible when the vessels start to expand. It is also characterised by excessive tightening, itching, or burning sensations, most often around the chin, nose, cheeks, and forehead. This type of skin not only affects appearance but also comfort.
The autumn-winter period is extremely troublesome for this condition because temperatures are variable. A major mistake exacerbating this problem is going out in freezing weather and heading towards a radiator or fireplace immediately afterwards. It's advisable to allow temperatures to change gradually so the skin doesn't experience sudden thermal shifts. The same applies to excessive sun exposure; UV radiation is not beneficial. However, during these seasons, there's not much to worry about.
How to deal with it?
Properly selected skincare is key to managing emerging "capillaries." Here are the most important cosmetics that will provide the desired results:
- creams designed for sensitive capillary skin,
- gentle tonics and lotions that help seal blood vessels,
- moisturising creams,
- nourishing and soothing masks,
- chamomile or wild rose petal compresses,
- enzymatic peeling,
- day creams with UVA and UVB filters,
- products containing aloe vera, shea butter, panthenol, hyaluronic acid, vitamins C and K.
Cosmetics alone may not be enough, so it's worth considering other factors. Spicy or very hot dishes are not ideal for sensitive capillary skin. Try to avoid them, and you may notice significant improvements. Paying attention to what we eat will also be beneficial. A well-balanced diet not only influences our health or well-being but also the condition of our skin. Additionally, stimulants such as alcohol and cigarettes can worsen this problem.
Long, hot baths, saunas, or overly warm room temperatures can be damaging. Conversely, spending time in freezing temperatures will have a similar effect. Such temperature fluctuations strongly impact the skin, causing discomfort and weakening its condition. If you miss the sun and decide to visit a tanning salon, remember to use sunscreen and not overdo it.
