Taylor Swift is an American singer and songwriter known for hits such as "Karma," "22," and "Wildest Dreams." The vocalist primarily creates music in country, pop, and pop-rock genres.

Swift is famous for her distinctive songwriting style. Most of her lyrics are based on personal experiences and romantic relationships. Over the years, she has won numerous music awards and has established herself as one of the most important artists in contemporary pop music.

Did Charli xcx write a song about Taylor Swift?

Charli xcx is an artist whose popularity was boosted by songs like "I Love It", "Break the Rules", "Boom Clap" and "1999". Despite millions of views and a lot of sentiments, the old tracks are now a thing of the past. The vocalist released a new album titled "brat". With it, she introduced a flashy era of rebellious brats.

The latest album by Charli features a song titled "Sympathy Is a Knife." Some fans suspected that the artist sang about Taylor Swift in it. The famous star, who just finished the Eras Tour, used to date the current fiancé of the author of the "Brat" album—The 1975's vocalist Matty Healy. The song includes lyrics: "Don't wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend's show. Fingers crossed behind my back. I hope they break up."

The singer reveals what the song is about

In an interview with the popular magazine The New York Times, Charli revealed what inspired her during the creation of the song "Sympathy Is a Knife". The artist confessed: "People are gonna think what they want to think. That song is about me and my feelings and my anxiety and the way my brain creates narratives and stories in my head when I feel insecure and how I don’t want to be in those situations physically when I feel self-doubt".

Fans' doubts were further dispelled by a comment from Taylor Swift, who praised Charli XCX: "I’ve been blown away by Charli’s melodic sensibilities since I first heard ‘Stay Away’ in 2011. Her writing is surreal and inventive, always. She just takes a song to places you wouldn’t expect it to go, and she’s been doing it consistently for over a decade. I love to see hard work like that pay off."
