The local government of the Italian island of Capri has raised concerns with the authorities regarding excessive tourism. Crowds of visitors contribute to the deterioration of the quality of life for local residents, and they are calling for solutions to these problems.

The Italian island has been struggling for years due to the massive influx of tourists worldwide. Residents complain, among other things, that they cannot explore the island under satisfactory conditions. Local authorities have regularly reported on the chaos at the waterfront, which is receiving more and more ships and hydrofoils.

Mayor Marino Lembo warned earlier that paralyzing crowds and chaos in the port threaten public safety. He appealed to the prefect, the head of local administration, for intervention and action to ensure order on the island.

It is also problematic that residents often have trouble getting on the small local buses that take them to work and school. Tourists, arriving in the thousands, also inundate these buses.

Residents demand immediate action

At the last council meeting before the June elections, council members voted on a document calling on the authorities of the Campania region to take immediate action to end transportation difficulties.

The resolution emphasizes the risk that the situation may get out of control during the summer when there will be even more tourists.
