Cannes 2024: Stars embrace timeless elegance on the red carpet

Class, grace, and chic reigned supreme this year on the red carpet. We forgot about extravagance, fancy cuts, flashy colors, ruffles, and other embellishments. Stars served us a feast at its finest – the elegant style of Cannes. Some may say it was boring. But after all, this is not the MET Gala.

The 77th edition of the Cannes International Film Festival is ending. This year, the red carpet was dominated by classic and classy looks, beauty and grace, white and black. Necklines and exposed backs were tastefully done, and silver, shimmering details were everywhere.

Which star looked the best? It’s hard to choose.

Anja Rubik

The film festival would not be complete without Anja Rubik, who has been a regular at Cannes for many years. As a long-time friend of Anthony Vaccarello, she naturally wore a Saint Laurent gown, the fashion house known for its chic minimalism. Although the front of the black dress was entirely covered, the model caused a sensation when she turned her back to the photographers. Sensual cutouts did all the work.

Bella Hadid

Bella Hadid appeared several times at this year’s Cannes Festival. Among the outfits she chose, a silver satin gown she wore to the Chopard luxury brand event stands out. The flowing fabric beautifully complements every tiny movement of the model. Additionally, the exposed back was adorned only with jewelled straps. This stunning outfit is vintage Dsquared2.

Demi Moore

Demi Moore also shone several times at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. But the most stunning gown she wore was at the amfAR gala. The star donned a white gown custom-made by the Loewe fashion house. The statuesque creation featured a cowl neckline and shimmering details. In this gown, the actress looked like a Greek goddess.

Cate Blanchett

From the front, it looked like a classic black dress with chains instead of straps. However, from the back, a light pink appeared, and the lining was a vivid shade of green. Some believe that Cate Blanchett expressed her support for Palestine this way. The film star looked stunning in the satin, form-fitting haute couture creation by Jean Paul Gaultier.

Eva Longoria

Every star dreams of wearing an Elie Saab creation. The Lebanese designer loves luxury but in the best sense of the word. In Cannes, Eva Longoria appeared in a maximally shimmering, lacy gown with a train and deep neckline from his atelier.

Anya Taylor-Joy

Anya Taylor-Joy shone at the premiere of the movie "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga," in which she played the lead role – a role completely different from previous ones, being edgy. The actress wore a shiny ball gown with a Dior label for this special occasion. Maria Grazia Chiuri, who created this outfit, was inspired by an archival design from 1957. A “real-life princess”? No doubt about it.

Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez received a standing ovation after the screening of the film "Emilia Pérez." But before she was moved to tears, she shone on the red carpet in a black Saint Laurent dress with a highly effective white Carmen neckline. Her neck was adorned with a necklace from Bulgari.

Rosie Huntington Whiteley

We have one deviation from the classical. Rosie Huntington Whiteley chose a black jumpsuit instead of a gown, with no straps but flared legs. It would be nothing extraordinary if it weren’t for the silvery stream of jewellery strings cascading downwards. Interestingly, it’s a design by Victoria Beckham.

Elsa Hosk

She looked like a star from Hollywood’s golden era. That hair, that makeup with red lipstick, but most notably, that dress – thanks to it, Elsa Hosk deserved the title of queen of the Cannes 2024 red carpet. The design was by Prabal Gurung. The black, highly minimalist base was accompanied by a white train connected with an unconventional neckline.

Leonie Hanne

The "cherry on top" of the most beautiful creations from Cannes 2024 will be German fashion influencer Leonie Hanne, who wore a gown by Milla Nova. The white, simple creation with thin straps was accompanied by a gigantic bow visible when the fashionista was turned around. It was not an accidental choice, as bows have been the most fashionable detail of the past and current seasons.
