Even though they secured a place on the prestigious and exclusive guest list for the most important fashion event of the year, their outfits are astonishing. The celebrities you're about to see aimed to stand out so much that they confused extravagance with excess.

"Garden of Time" was the dress code theme for the MET Gala 2024. Creations that seemed to come from a fairy-tale land and paid homage to flowers in every form paraded down the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But some left jaws dropped and heads shaking. The seven-meter (about 23ft) train of Princess Diana's wedding dress has met its match. Cardi B's outfit for the MET Gala 2024 covered the entire staircase, and the star needed several assistants to manage it. Posing with a companion was out of the question unless shot with a very wide-angle lens.

Even though the lines between men's and women's wardrobes are blurring, and lingerie has been making daylight appearances for a while, a garter belt worn over men's trousers still raises eyebrows. Jeremy Pope showed bravery and creativity but lacked class.

Some see Lizzo's dress at the MET Gala as art, while others view it as a fashion miss. The vocalist's outfit seemed to defy gravity, levitating at her feet. The prominent headpiece evoked the distinctive silhouette of the Bene Gesserit. Too much? Definitely.

The choice of attire by this artist had little in common with the elegance typically expected at such a prestigious event. Doja Cat arrived in an elongated T-shirt that doubled as a dress. The artist chose the path of least resistance, posing on the stairs soaked to the skin.

Demi Moore turned up at the gala with arrows of fashion. She swapped the traditional bow for a gigantic flower, which blossomed on a structure shaped like a heart. The designer aspect of the dress certainly overshadowed the actress. When viewing photos of Demi Moore from the MET Gala 2024, the outfit is the first thing you notice, not the person.

On one hand, the exceptional tennis player's outfit resembled that of a Greek goddess, and on the other, it was a futuristic dress made of aluminum. Serena Williams was on the right track with an impressive texture. However, the fabric swirling behind her shoulder, also attached in the form of a train to her hip, was over the top.

Kylie Minogue's dress hinted at worn denim, frayed by time and seemingly unsuitable for a grand gala. The glittery and see-through elements on the "patches" did not enhance the vocalist's styling.

From the front, Rita Ora's styling appeared intriguing, and the vertical fringes seemed to "take control," but with the back design, the artist went too far. The see-through jumpsuit left barely anything to the imagination.

The vocalist opted for flowers, or rather, a cluster of flowers, which she adorned herself with up to her neck. The outfit was put on rather than worn, reminiscent of a paper theatre from childhood. Though it was hard to deem the artist's look a success, probably only Erykah Badu could pull off such an abstract creation convincingly.

Meanwhile, Amelia Gray made an appearance at the MET Gala in a dress that was combined with an aquarium. The plastic showcase acted as a skirt, displaying purple roses inside. The original mini dress stood out, but perhaps not for the right reasons.
