After arriving in Berlin on Thursday night, President Biden expressed his congratulations to Netanyahu for the operation that took out Sinwar, noting that Sinwar was responsible for significant violence. Biden also emphasized the importance of taking further steps and expressed his hope for a swift end to the war.

As the US President stated, Secretary of State Antony Blinken will travel to Israel in the coming days to broker a ceasefire agreement.

Biden and Netanyahu discussed how to use the moment of Sinwar's death to free Hamas hostages and end the war, ensuring Israel's security and preventing Hamas from regaining control of Gaza, added the White House statement.

"The US President praised the IDF and their excellent work," stated Netanyahu's office following the conversation.

Hamas leader killed in Israeli attack

The Israeli army reported on Thursday that soldiers killed the leader of the Islamist Hamas ruling Gaza on Wednesday. Sinwar was one of the architects of the attack on Israel on 7 October 2023, during which approximately 1,200 people were killed and 251 were abducted. Ninety-seven of the hostages are still being held in Gaza, and according to the Israeli military, some of them are no longer alive.

In the brutal Israeli intervention against Hamas in Gaza that has continued for over a year, more than 42,000 Palestinians have died. The United States has repeatedly attempted to broker a ceasefire. However, all negotiations have, so far, failed.
