"It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term," stated Joe Biden in a statement published on the X portal.

Joe Biden and Donald Trump without a rematch in the US presidential elections

Dark clouds had been gathering over the candidacy of the incumbent President Joe Biden for a long time. The downpour was triggered by a debate in which the Democrats, in general opinion, performed compared to Donald Trump. The clash was supposed to reassure that the head of state was healthy enough to lead the country for the next four years.

The effect was, however, the opposite - according to observers, the 78-year-old Republican, who turned 78 in June, showed more energy and clarity of mind. As a result, voices from Democratic Party voters and their donors began to appear increasingly, stating that Biden must withdraw; otherwise, Trump's victory is at least highly probable.

Celebrities such as actor George Clooney called for Biden to withdraw from the race, and leaks indicated that more and more people from Biden's party elite were demanding the same. Despite attempts to attack Donald Trump, Barack Obama mainly maintained Biden's support, but according to media reports, that has also come to an end.

Pressure on Joe Biden

"The Washington Post," based on many sources, wrote that in recent days, Barack Obama told colleagues that, in his opinion, the President of the USA must seriously consider the validity of his candidacy, as the Democrats' chances in the autumn elections have significantly decreased.

Biden's chances were certainly not helped by the recent public statements of the party elite. For example, on Wednesday, Democratic Congressman and Senate candidate Adam Schiff called on the President to withdraw from the race.

Biden's withdrawal from the elections is surprising because the President repeatedly emphasised that such a scenario was out of the question. His camp blamed his poor debate performance on a cold.

On the other hand, the withdrawal is not a surprise because the reputable and credible Axios portal unofficially announced it. The US presidential elections will be held on 5th November.
