A healthy sleep is fundamental. It not only allows the body to regenerate but can also minimise some ailments. Are you pregnant or suffering from acid reflux? Choose to sleep on your left side, advises renowned sleep expert James Leinhardt. And who benefits more from sleeping on the right side?

For years, society has believed that a good sleep lasts about eight hours. However, James Leinhardt, who professionally deals with this issue daily, claims that the duration is not as important. In this case, the most crucial factor is its quality. We provide tips on how to take care of this aspect.

How to sleep well?

James Leinhardt revealed in one of his TikTok videos that the way we lie during sleep is hugely significant. The specialist emphasised that it can even have a real impact on our health. That’s why it’s worth knowing which position is best for us.

According to him, it's best to sleep on your back.

- Your spine is immediately supported by the mattress, and the weight of your body is distributed more evenly. If you place a pillow under your knees, you’ll notice that your pelvis tilts slightly, and a larger part of your back now touches the bed, providing better support - he explains.

The expert does not rule out side sleeping either. However, it's important to know which side is suitable for us.

- Those of you who suffer from high blood pressure should lie on your right side, whereas those who suffer from acid reflux, especially pregnant women, are recommended to lie on their left side - he noted.

How to improve sleep quality?

It's no secret that lack of sleep can have a real impact on our well-being and even our health. When we don't sleep, we are irritable and find it harder to concentrate. How to avoid this?

First of all, you need to take care of the place where you sleep. It shouldn't be too cold, but also not too hot. It’s good to air the room just before going to bed. An hour before falling asleep, it is also advisable to refrain from using electronic devices such as smartphones, computers, or TVs.
