Both the men's and women's Australian field hockey teams concluded their performances at the quarter-final stage during this year's 2024 Paris Olympics. The women's team lost to China 2-3, while the men's team was defeated by the Netherlands 0-2. However, the sporting results did not grab media attention; it was the incident involving one of the Australian athletes.

On the night from Tuesday to Wednesday in the northern part of Paris in the Pigalle district, there was an arrest of an Australian field hockey player on charges of purchasing cocaine. Police found one gram (0.04 oz) of this substance on the athlete.

French crime reporter Jean-Baptiste Marty, working for the radio station Europe1, conveyed the information about the detention. He posted an update on platform X announcing the arrest of a member of the Australian field hockey team. According to the Daily Mail, the athlete in question is 28-year-old Tom Craig.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) confirmed the athlete's detention. An AOC spokesperson stated that no formal charges had been made yet, and the committee is investigating further.

During the police operation, besides the athlete, an alleged drug dealer was also arrested. The police confiscated 75 ecstasy pills, three grams (0.1 oz) of methamphetamine, and seven vials of cocaine.

Who is Tom Craig?

Tom Craig is an Australian field hockey player who was born on September 3, 1995, in Sydney. He is one of the leading players in the Australian national team, known as the "Kookaburras." Craig started his sports career at a young age and quickly gained recognition for his skills and dedication.

Tom Craig has many achievements to his name, both at the national and international levels. He also participated in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, where Australia reached the quarter-finals.

The Australian Olympic Committee has engaged with local authorities in Paris to support the athletes during this challenging time. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
