Are we showering too much? Scientists detail the risks
Many people believe they have hygiene rules down pat; however, it turns out that commonly accepted rules may not be the best. Doctors and scientists clearly indicate that washing your entire body daily is not the healthiest choice.

A dermatologist and author of the book "Beyond Soap" spoke on washing. Dr Sandra Skotnicki from Yale School of Medicine noted that a particular protective layer of the skin called the hydrolipid barrier, is removed during body washing.
This layer consists of natural oils and substances secreted by the skin, which protect the body from bacteria, viruses, and other potentially harmful factors.
Too frequent or too long washing can not only reduce the protection of our entire body but also lead to skin drying. As a result, it can cause irritation, damage, excessive flaking, and itching.
Scientists are increasingly pointing out that the human body should come into contact with microorganisms and dirt. This is because contact with various microorganisms helps the immune system learn how to respond correctly.
What needs to be washed daily?
Scientists emphasise that washing once every 2-3 days is fine. Doing so in the evening is recommended so as not to bring dirt and sweat to bed.
However, it is worth remembering that some body parts need to be washed daily. This concerns the armpits, feet, and intimate areas.
This is due to the higher tendency to accumulate fungi and bacteria and to emit unpleasant odours. These body parts should be washed daily with soap, gel, or another suitable product. The remaining parts can be rinsed with water.
