Anna Kendrick previously announced that she does not plan to become a mother. The actress decided to address this openly, challenging societal taboos. She first expressed that "motherhood isn't for her" in her book "Scrappy Little Nobody". Now, in her latest interview, she has elaborated further.
Anna Kendrick calls herself a "child-free cat lady"
In a conversation with Flow Space, Kendrick highlighted a commonly used statement among men: "Yeah, maybe one day - a couple of kids running around," She admitted, "I don't think I've ever heard a woman say that!."
Kendrick explains that this statement has an underlying image that she finds troubling. She describes it thus: "You come home at the end of your workday, and you put down your proverbial briefcase, and you're making yourself a cocktail, and a woman in a Laura Ashley dress is out in the yard, and there's a couple of kids - in white! - running around. Um, 'Where are you in that, sir?"
The actress also discussed co-parenting and the phrase that frustrates her, often heard from men: "Help out with the kids." Kendrick notes that husbands often say these words, even though both parents work professionally.
Despite her clear viewpoint, Kendrick admits that she sometimes feels excluded from discussions about parenting among her friends who have children. "I always want to kind of say something, and then I'm just like, 'Well, I'm the childless cat lady. I'm not gonna say s(...)," she admits.
"Child-free cat ladies" is an expression used by J.D. Vance, who ran for the office of Vice President of the USA. He spoke about Kamala Harris, who never became a mother. Without mercy, in a conversation with Fox News he stated that women who haven't given birth to children are "child-free cat ladies who are unhappy in their miserable lives" and that they contribute nothing to America. Among those who responded to his words was Jennifer Aniston, who publicly spoke about her struggle to conceive.
"All I can say is… Mr Vance, I pray that your daughter is fortunate enough to bear children of her own one day. I hope she will not need to turn to IVF as a second option. Because you are trying to take that away from her, too," the actress added.
