As anticipation for Eurovision builds, all eyes are on the upcoming grand final. Among the confirmed participants are countries that contribute significantly to the European Broadcasting Union, securing their place in the iconic Saturday night show. Italy's entry this year is 23-year-old Angelina Mango, performing "La noia".
Fans and experts alike tip Mango as the frontrunner for this year's trophy, noting her deep musical roots and early introduction to performance. Yet, her journey has been shadowed by a profound family loss.
Eurovision 2024: Angelina Mango's touching backstory
Representing Italy, Angelina Mango is the progeny of Laura Valente, ex-Matia Bazar member, and Giuseppe "Pino" Mango, an 80s pop sensation. The family was rocked by tragedy years ago when Angelina was just a teenager, with the sudden death of her father.
In 2014, Giuseppe Mango collapsed while performing during the "World of Colours" concert in Policoro. Despite rapid medical intervention, he was pronounced dead en route to the hospital at the age of 60, deeply affecting his family.
Angelina, who was 13 at the time, found her father's death particularly challenging. She has spoken about the turmoil she experienced, primarily as it unfolded publicly.
