Nestled in the heart of New England, within the cemetery of Middlebury, lies a grave with a captivating history dating back to ancient Egypt. In the 19th century, due to antiquity trade, the remains of a child, possibly from a royal family, were transported to American soil. It is the enigma surrounding this grave that draws visitors. What do the symbols on this unique burial site signify, and how did an ancient mummy—with its grave—come to find a resting place in Vermont?

The grave in Vermont, USA full of mysteries

In the Middlebury cemetery, one grave stands out, fascinating both locals and tourists. It appears to be an ordinary necropolis, yet it conceals a special history—the burial of a mummy from the era of the Egyptian pharaohs. The grave, marked with ancient symbols, contains the remains of a boy named Amum-Her-Khepesh-Ef, who, according to legend, was of royal descent. It is his remarkable story that makes this place extraordinary.

The grave in Middlebury is the resting place of a young boy who died approximately four thousand years ago in ancient Egypt. Some sources suggest he was the son of Pharaoh Senusret III. This child, once part of one of the most mighty ancient empires, was transported to America due to illicit trade in antiquities.

The town's current residents refer to the boy as a "prince" and honour him by visiting the grave and leaving small tributes. This unique place is a historical puzzle and a site of veneration, imbued with respect and emotion for those who visit.

The symbols on the grave carry a message

The grave stands out not only due to its unusual history but also because of the ancient symbols engraved on the tombstone. These mysterious signs originate from ancient Egyptian times and represent beliefs regarding the afterlife. Decorated with Egyptian symbolism, they are intended to protect the deceased in the afterlife and ensure eternal peace.

The appearance of these symbols in an American cemetery is surprising, yet the extraordinary burial story explains it. The boy's remains, now buried in Middlebury, were cremated over 75 years ago after having been stored for a long time in a local museum's repository. Due to their poor condition, they were not displayed, so a decision was made to provide a dignified burial. The Egyptian symbols on the grave are closely linked with beliefs about the afterlife, making this place unique.

The historical figure of Prince Amum-Her-Khepesh-Ef, although interred in a modest grave, continues to captivate with his story. According to ancient Egyptian beliefs, Egyptian symbols are meant to protect his soul and facilitate its passage to eternity. While his exact origins remain unconfirmed, legend holds that he died at the age of two as the son of Pharaoh Senusret III, circa 1883 BC. Regardless of whether his royal lineage is confirmed, the residents of Middlebury maintain the memory of this extraordinary grave with reverence.
