The Czech Army is dealing with a severe accident at the Libava training ground, where unspecified ammunition exploded.

We are dealing with a serious accident at the Libava training ground, where unspecified ammunition exploded. Unfortunately, there are injuries at the scene, informed the Czech Armed Forces on the social media platform X.

The Military Police are investigating the matter. Neither the Military Police spokeswoman, Katerina Mlynkova, nor the army spokeswoman, Magdalena Dworakova, disclosed the number of injured.

The District Emergency Service in Olomouc is responding to the incident.

Since this is a military area and the military is involved, I cannot provide more detailed information. I can only confirm that the Olomouc emergency services are responding to this incident. We have two crews from Olomouc on site, and an air ambulance from another region is also assisting at the scene, said the spokeswoman for the emergency services, Lucie Mikiskova.

The training ground since World War II

The Libava military training ground was established after World War II on land previously inhabited by the expelled German population. Until the early 1990s, it served as a base for Soviet troops.

The training ground occupies part of the Oder Mountains area, including its highest peak, Fidlovy Kopec, and the source of the Oder. A tourist trail has been marked to the source and can be walked on weekends and holidays.
