In the city of Modica, located on the Italian island of Sicily, panic ensued as a 91-year-old took to the wheel of his car and quickly lost control of it.

On the brink of disaster

Italian media report that during his frenzied journey, the man rammed into five cars parked alongside the road, narrowly avoiding a pedestrian.

The local police initiated a pursuit. Ignoring all attempts to stop him, the elderly driver only came to a halt when his car's damaged wheel nearly detached following further collisions. The city's law enforcement subsequently seized the vehicle from the elderly driver, who turned the streets into chaos.

Remarkably, the 91-year-old emerged from his wild journey unscathed. No one else was injured in the ordeal, though the man now faces fines for his actions.

A mesmerizing island

Sicily, known as the "Pearl of the Mediterranean Sea," attracts tourists annually with its claim as the European region with the highest sunshine hours each year, making it a veritable paradise for holidaymakers. The island entices visitors with its stunning beaches, rich historical sites, and breathtaking landscapes.

The island offers something for everyone: for history buffs, there are ancient ruins and monuments; for food lovers, exquisite wines and delectable seafood; and those seeking adventure, the eternally active volcanoes await.

Notably, at the beginning of this year, Italy was crowned the top nation in terms of tourist appeal, as announced in a report by the Italian Institute for Public Opinion Research, Demoskopika, boasting the highest score in the European Tourism Reputation (ETR) classification.
