The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, expressed his belief that the policies of the new U.S. administration under Donald Trump's leadership could speed up the war's conclusion. In an interview with Ukrainian public radio, Zelensky emphasised that there was no question of concessions to Russia.

Zelensky noted that Trump's approach to the conflict aligns with the promises made to American society. "Certainly, with the policies of this team that will now lead the White House, the war will end faster," Zelensky stated in an interview with Ukrainian public radio.

The Ukrainian president highlighted that during a phone conversation with Trump after his election victory, the U.S. president-elect was attentive to Ukraine's stance on the war with Russia. "I did not hear anything contrary to our position," Zelensky added.

Is the U.S. pressuring Ukraine? "The 'sit and listen' rhetoric doesn't work"

Zelensky emphasised Ukraine's sovereignty when asked whether the U.S. might pressure Ukraine into joining negotiations with Russia. He stated that Ukraine is an independent nation and has demonstrated throughout the war that it will not simply adhere to passive listening or external demands.

The President of Ukraine highlighted the importance of achieving a fair peace for the nation, emphasizing that it should not come at the cost of losing its finest individuals to injustice. He acknowledged that while the war will eventually conclude, the exact timing remains uncertain.

Following Trump's victory, there were suggestions that the new U.S. administration may pressure Kyiv regarding territorial concessions to Moscow. However, Ukrainian authorities strongly oppose such solutions.
