According to the police, the man arrived at the polling station in Cook County on Sunday morning, allegedly to cast his vote. He began causing a disturbance by using vulgar language, then pushed and struck a 74-year-old election judge in the face.
Police reported that when he attempted to hit the 74-year-old, he also struck an 80-year-old woman. From a social media profile uncovered by ABC Chicago, he appears to be a martial arts enthusiast. He posted pictures showcasing his physique in front of a mirror or in a boxing ring.
Police were called to the polling station
Police stated that several people managed to restrain him until their arrival. In a press release, it was explained that the assailant "walked past many other voters waiting in queue to enter the voting area."
"The election judge at the entrance instructed the 24-year-old to go to the end of the queue and wait his turn, but he refused," the police said. Then a scuffle ensued during which the aggressive man shouted insults and struck the election judge.
The prosecutor charged him with two counts of aggravated battery against a person over 60, two counts of aggravated battery in a public place, five counts of resisting arrest, and one count of disorderly conduct.
