Russia - another world? It certainly might seem so when we think about all the absurd information that reaches us from across the eastern border. Kindergarten teachers forcing children to exercise in the snow, accusations against Tom Cruise for plagiarising a stunt at the Olympics, a trend of jumping into dumpsters, and a child kept in a cage- we could go on, as this is merely the tip of the iceberg.
Censorship, iron discipline, military service, or even the arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin issued in 2023 by the International Criminal Court in The Hague do not, however, deter some from idealising Russia. This sentiment is not limited to residents but also extends to foreigners who aspire to move to Eastern Europe. Reality has ruthlessly tested these brave souls: a Danish rapper was forcibly sent to the front line, while the Feinster family from Canada had their bank accounts frozen.
But what about the everyday citizens in Russia? Their standards of living are certainly different from those we are accustomed to. A symbol of this could be the outhouse provided for election commission members in the Ryazan region.
An outhouse was set up for the election commission. A woman fell into the cesspit
The bizarre situation was reported on the portal vk.com (Vkontakte - the Russian equivalent of Facebook) by the Mash profile, which publishes "sad and funny stories from the life of our country." Which category does the case of Olga, the woman who fell into the cesspit, fall into?
The story sounds somewhat amusing, but above all, it is frightening and revolting. How did it happen? The woman is a member of the election commission, and she and her team were working in the village of Agro-Pustyn. They were assigned an old house that, however, was not connected to the sewage system. So, the authorities provided the workers with a brand new outhouse - which must be admitted sounds bizarre, especially in the context of their role. The latrine turned out to be not so luxurious, and when Olga was inside, she fell into the cesspit along with it.
The woman was unharmed. Her colleagues rescued her from the predicament, and the only physical injuries she suffered were bruises, scrapes, and a few splinters.
