In winter, pavements can pose a significant challenge for pedestrians. Ice and compacted snow create a layer that becomes slippery and dangerous. Consequently, many people, especially the elderly, risk sustaining serious injuries. So how can you avoid such accidents?

Slippery pavements – how to stay safe?

Exercising caution on a slippery pavement is crucial, yet even the most careful walkers need to be vigilant. Pedestrians should take steps carefully, with slightly bent knees and weight shifted forward, which helps increase traction and reduce the likelihood of a fall.

Investing in good footwear, such as boots with thick soles, is one of the basic solutions. Every pair of shoes can also be prepared for winter conditions with a few clever methods.

Home remedies for slippery pavements

There are special products available on the market that help improve the grip of soles, but we don't always need to incur extra costs. Hair spray is more than sufficient. After gently rubbing the soles with sandpaper, spray them with hair spray. Although this method is simple, it requires regular reapplication to be effective.

Another home method is using canvas bandages, which can be applied in an 'X' shape on the shoe soles. With this solution, you can feel more secure on a slippery pavement, avoiding dangerous slips.
