The bark used as an extract can be safely taken by pregnant women. Viburnum opulus has antiemetic effects, treats nervous disorders, and prevents leg cramps. Additionally, due to its astringent properties, it prevents miscarriages and premature births. Can Viburnum opulus be eaten raw?

Unprocessed Viburnum opulus fruits contain saponins, which are toxic substances. Consumption of such fruits may lead to unpleasant side effects, such as vomiting, dizziness, speech problems, or fainting.

Children are particularly at risk from the negative effects of eating raw Viburnum opulus fruits. Therefore, it is recommended that they be consumed only after proper processing. They can be used to prepare various preserves, such as jams, marmalades, juices, or tinctures.

What can you make from Viburnum opulus fruits?

Viburnum opulus fruits are tastiest after the first frost when they lose their characteristic bitterness. If you cannot collect the fruits during this time, you can freeze them. The effect will be if you collect the fruits after the first frost.
