US‑Russia explore rare earth deals amid Ukraine peace talks
Vladimir Putin is willing to cooperate economically with the USA, including in the energy sector and the extraction of rare earth minerals. The Kremlin's statement came after US President Donald Trump announced that he was engaged in "serious talks" with Russia regarding the end of the war in Ukraine and "trying to make economic deals" with Moscow, highlighting its "vast rare earth resources."
Much of the information provided by Russian media or government representatives is propaganda. Such reports are components of the information war conducted by the Russian Federation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Moscow is ready to cooperate with American companies in the extraction of rare earth minerals both in Russia and in the territories occupied by Russia in Ukraine.
In an interview with state television, Putin emphasized that Russia holds far greater resources than Ukraine, particularly in rare metals. He noted that Russia is among the leading countries in rare metal reserves. He expressed readiness to involve foreign partners in developing resources in newly acquired territories, including those under Russian control in Ukraine.
Possibility of lifting sanctions
Putin stated that Russia would be open to supplying approximately 2 million tonnes of aluminium to the U.S. market if sanctions on Russian metal imports were lifted. He also highlighted that Trump's stance on Russia and Ukraine is driven more by strategic calculation and a rational assessment of the situation rather than emotions.
"I’ve spoken to President Putin, and my people are dealing with him constantly, and his people in particular, and they want to do something," said Donald Trump during a conference at the White House. "I mean, that’s what I do. I do deals. My whole life is deals. That’s all I know, is deals. And I know when somebody wants to make it and when somebody doesn’t," added the US President.
Ukraine has previously emphasised that it seeks security guarantees from the USA as part of any agreement, but the US President has been reluctant to comment on this. "I may be wrong, but I believe he wants to make a deal," Trump said when asked about his belief that he can trust Putin.
