US offers £4m bounty to curb North Korean illicit financing

The US Department of State has offered a reward of £4 million for information on the illegal financing of Kim Jong Un's regime. This mechanism includes exporting workers, money laundering, and cybercrime.

On Thursday, the US Department of State announced a reward for information regarding illegal sources of financing for the North Korean regime. The reward amounts to £4 million and aims to disrupt the mechanism supporting North Korea's weapons of mass destruction programme.

US reward for information on North Korea's activities

According to US authorities, Pyongyang uses various methods to acquire funds. These include exporting workers, money laundering, and cybercriminal activities. The actions aim to support Kim Jong Un's regime.

The US Department of State emphasises that the reward is intended to help identify and disrupt these illegal activities. US authorities hope for international cooperation to limit the funding of North Korea's weapons programme.
