Nowadays, we encounter a wealth of information on social media about mental and physical health. One individual offering insights into maintaining proper health is Dr Emma Qureshey, a gynaecologist from Houston. She runs a TikTok account and provides many practical tips.
"The first thing I would never do," she wrote under a post discussing urinating in the shower.
Never do this in the shower
Why could this be detrimental to our intimate health? As Dr Qureshey explained, urinating in the shower can weaken the pelvic floor, especially if done while standing. It can also create a situation where the sound of running water triggers an urgent need to urinate.
Standing does not promote pelvic relaxation, meaning the bladder may not fully empty. Over time, this can lead to issues such as more frequent urination and a lack of control over this process.
The doctor on treating vaginal infections
Dr Emma Qureshey also emphasised that many women err by trying to self-treat vaginal infections. She highlighted that home remedies, such as garlic or yoghurt, are ineffective and may worsen the condition. In the case of infections, it is wise to consult a doctor.
