As we have already reported, the Ukrainians received 31 M1A1 Abrams tanks from the United States. Washington initially considered providing the M1A2 Abrams version. These were to be new tanks purchased as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative funds.
Ultimately, it was decided that Ukraine would receive refurbished M1A1 Abrams tanks, previously used by American soldiers. This solution allowed for a shorter delivery time for the tanks.
The Ukrainian army soldiers praise the American tanks for their precision, stabilization, and smoothness. However, the tanks have one quite noticeable flaw.
Unfortunately, our modification does not have depleted uranium armor. This is now its biggest drawback - emphasizes one of the soldiers.
Abrams M1A2. There's a lot to praise
The Ukrainian praises the thermal imaging cameras that allow for night operation, as well as the depleted uranium anti-tank shells, which the tank operates. He believes the machine copes well with eliminating Russian military equipment and infantry.
The Abrams have significantly more advantages than disadvantages. The tanks perform excellently on the battlefield, and despite a few losses, the Ukrainians do not intend to complain. They also ask Americans to send more.
It's worth noting that the mentioned tanks are equipped with an M256 cannon cal. 120 mm and additional armament consisting of machine guns cal. .50 (12.7 mm) and cal. .308 (7.62 mm). With a length of nearly 10 metres, they weigh almost 60 tonnes. Despite such dimensions, the machine equipped with a 1500 HP engine can speed up to about 68 km/h.
