An explosion occurred on a railway bridge in the Samara region of Russia early on Monday morning. The damage to the structure resulted in train delays, as reported by Russian Telegram channels Mash and Baza. The Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) has confirmed its involvement in the attack.

The explosion took place on a railway bridge over the Chapayevka River near the city of Chapayevsk, approximately 40 kilometres from Samara. According to Russian media, the sound of the explosion was heard around 3:15 AM Greenwich Time.

The metal structures of the bridge and the fence were damaged due to the explosion. However, the concrete base of the crossing remained intact.

The movement of trains across the bridge has been halted. Three passenger trains from Moscow and one local train have been stopped. Emergency services are currently working at the scene.

Russian media report that the explosion did not result in any injuries.

The explosive device was planted by Ukrainian intelligence

Shortly after the explosion was reported, the Ukrainian military intelligence admitted to orchestrating the sabotage.

"The railway line was utilised by the aggressor for transporting ammunition, including engineering ammunition manufactured by the Polimer plant in Chapayevsk in the Samara region. Given the extent of the damage to the railway bridge, it will be infeasible to use it for an extended period," stated an announcement from HUR.
