North Koreans attacked one of the positions of the Security and Defence Forces of Ukraine (SSO) in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.

North Koreans stood no chance

"During the enemy's attempted assault, the SSO operators opened fire with a stationary MK-19 automatic grenade launcher and conducted a series of drone drops," reads the unit's communiqué.

As a result of the action, the SSO operators eliminated 12 North Korean soldiers and injured another 20.

100 dead and nearly 1,000 injured

On Thursday, South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) reported that at least 100 North Korean soldiers were killed and a thousand were injured in clashes with Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region of Russia. According to the NIS, the North Korean military is being used as an assault force on the frontline.

"Some of the estimated 11,000 North Korean soldiers deployed in the Kursk region (where Ukrainian forces have launched an offensive since August of this year) began to participate in actual combat in December," the NIS reported during a closed-door meeting of the National Assembly's intelligence committee.

On Wednesday, the Security Service of Ukraine reported intercepting conversations of Russians indicating significant losses for the North Korean forces. At the beginning of the week, the press service of Ukrainian military intelligence (HUR) also reported "at least 30 killed or injured" soldiers as a result of the fighting last weekend in the Kursk region.
