Ukrainian forces edge closer to Kursk, seek allies' nod for Moscow attack

The Ukrainian offensive against Russia gains momentum with each passing day. The local armed forces are pushing deeper into the Kursk region, but they have even more ambitious plans. Kyiv wants to strike directly at Moscow. It is just waiting for permission from its allies.

These weeks could be extremely crucial for the fate of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The counterattack by Ukrainian armed forces is very effective, and the Russians don't know how to repel it. With each day, the Ukrainians get closer to Kursk.

However, this may only be the beginning of the Kremlin's troubles. Kyiv plans to strike Moscow and St. Petersburg. According to "The Guardian", the Ukrainian military wants to attack Russia's largest cities using Storm Shadow missiles.

This, however, requires the consent of the allies, especially the United Kingdom. The British have provided Ukraine with long-range missiles, and it depends on them whether rockets will fall on the Russian capital.

According to "The Guardian", the information about the attack plans was conveyed by "high-ranking officials". The Ukrainians explained that the Russians would sit down for negotiations on more equitable terms only when they realise that their largest metropolises are seriously threatened.

According to British reporters, the Ukrainian plans have not, at this moment, been met with favourable reception by representatives of the United States. Nevertheless, Ukraine is waiting for the "green light" to expand the operation in Russia.

First request before the attack on Kursk

It is known that Volodymyr Zelensky first asked British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak for permission to use the missiles on 12 August at 11 PM Greenwich Mean Time. The Ukrainians wanted to use them to attack in the Kursk region. The British refused.

The Ukrainians also asked for the green light to use ATACMS missiles, which were supplied by the United States. France is also among the countries whose consent is necessary to attack Moscow and St. Petersburg.
