Ukrainian figure targeted in deadly Moscow explosion
More information is emerging about the explosion in Moscow on Monday. According to Ukrainian media, a Ukrainian national named Armen Sarkisyan died in the incident. He had been pursued for fighting on the Russian side and for organising militias that, in 2014, disrupted pro-European demonstrations in Kyiv.
Sarkisyan succumbed to his injuries in hospital. The portal "Ukrainska Pravda" reports that Serhiy Shkryabatovskyi, a former bodyguard of President Viktor Yanukovych—who fled to Russia after being overthrown in 2014—was also injured in the explosion.
Sarkisyan had been sought for years for organising the so-called titushky, who attacked participants of the protests on Maidan. Since December 2024, he has also wanted to recruit prisoners from penitentiary institutions in the Russian-controlled Donbas regions to fight against Ukraine.
Attack in Moscow. Leads point to Ukraine
In December, Ukrainian special forces claimed responsibility for an explosion in Moscow, in which General Igor Kirillov, commander of the Russian Chemical, Biological, and Radiation Protection Troops, was killed.
Kirillov had been sanctioned for using chemical weapons during the war with Ukraine.
