Ukrainian drones target key Russian oil facilities in new strikes
Ukrainian drones have attacked a refinery in Ryazan and an oil depot in the Tula region, both of which are crucial to the Russian army. The General Staff of Ukraine released the information regarding strikes on these strategic targets within Russia.
The Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces attacked the refinery in Ryazan and the oil depot in the Tula region. These facilities are vital for the Russian army's fuel supply. According to the General Staff of Ukraine, the attack occurred during the night of 23rd to 24th February 2025.
The refinery in Ryazan, located approximately 125 miles southeast of Moscow, has been a target of previous Ukrainian attacks. Since the beginning of the year, UAVs have targeted at least seven Russian oil refineries, including Taneko in Tatarstan, Saratov, Volgograd, a plant in the Nizhny Novgorod region, and the refinery in Ryazan on two occasions. The Gazprom-owned Astrakhan plant, which supplies fuel to the southern regions, has also been targeted.
Attack on the Russian refinery: how the Ukrainian army operates
This time, at least five explosions were recorded, and a fire erupted in the main oil refining unit, ELOU AT-6. The Ukrainian army has announced its intention to continue targeting strategic sites that support Russian aggression.
The General Staff of Ukraine emphasized that combat operations will persist. Their primary objective is to weaken the logistical capabilities of the Russian army.
Since last year, Ukrainian forces have been increasingly effective in using drones to target sites thousands of miles beyond Russia's borders. This strategy aims to slow down the Russian advance, disrupt logistics, and compel the Kremlin to restrict fuel production and relocate weapon depots further east.
