The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has reported that Ukrainians have destroyed a Russian Nebo-M radar using ATACMS missiles. This represents a significant loss for Russia, as the cost of such a device is estimated at over £82 million, and the Russians were believed to have only ten active radars of this type remaining. Let's recall what the Nebo-M is and what capabilities it possesses.

Russians are facing another serious loss. According to the Ukrainian General Staff, Putin's army has lost an extremely valuable Nebo-M radar. Furthermore, Ukrainians believe that its destruction creates an "air corridor" for the effective use of Ukrainian Storm Shadow and SCALP-EG cruise missiles.

Russian Nebo-M radar - valuable

The Nebo-M radar is an advanced radar system used by the Russian armed forces, playing a key role in Russian air defence. The device operates in stealth mode, scanning the horizon for aerial objects. It is a technologically advanced system that utilises complex algorithms to detect, track, and intercept aerodynamic and ballistic targets.

Russia has only ten such operational systems, each costing over £82 million. The destruction of this station, therefore, weakens the Russian army's ability to monitor airspace effectively. This is particularly significant as this radar is crucial to the Russian air defence system. It facilitates the detection, tracking, and identification of aircraft, drones, and guided missiles.

Thanks to active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology, the Nebo-M is capable of detecting and tracking targets at long distances. This system is exceptionally difficult to neutralise due to its advanced features and technology. Available data indicates that the radar can operate in a 360-degree range, which allows for monitoring airspace from multiple directions simultaneously. This makes the Nebo-M one of the most modern radar systems used by Russia.
